Life long learning has created many opportunities for me. At 28, tired of being a receptionist, I went to work at Colorado State University, the largest employer in Fort Collins, CO, and one who provided an educational benefit of six credits per year. I had already completed most of my freshman year so I knew, with perseverance and hard work, I could finish the rest.
Going to school, working full-time, and raising two small children, I completed my associate degree at age 34. It took nine more years to complete a four-year degree, something I wanted to do to emphasize the importance of education to my children. At age 50, after being laid off, I went on to obtain a Master’s degree in Adult Education, Learning and Development.
Within a year of completing each degree I obtained new employment in more challenging and lucrative positions than previously held. My experience as a non-traditional student positions me to understand the struggles of other adult students striving to complete their education.
I’d like to share my passion for learning with others who have decided to go for their dreams by obtaining their degrees. In short, my goal is to become an on-line instructor in History or Political Science.
